(1) Licensed addiction counselors (LACs) must obtain 20 hours of continuing education per renewal cycle to renew their licenses. Continuing education received prior to the date of licensure is not counted towards renewal.

(2) New licensees applying for their first license renewal are not required to report continuing education.

(3) The purpose of continuing education is the ongoing professional development of LACs after full licensure is awarded. It is the responsibility of each licensee to plan, obtain, and document the continuing education.

(4) If licensees are unable to acquire sufficient continuing education credits to meet the requirements due to medical hardship, licensees may request an exception from the board. All requests for exceptions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the board.
