(1) Whenever a physician diagnoses a case of tuberculosis, s/he must ensure that a specimen from the case is sent to the department's microbiology laboratory.

(2) Whenever a laboratory finds a specimen tests positive for M. tuberculosis or acid-fast bacilli, the laboratory must forward the specimen to the department's microbiology laboratory for confirmation of the results and drug susceptibility testing.
