(1) The board hereby adopts and incorporates by reference the following:

(a) "List of Approved Backflow Prevention Assemblies" published by the Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research, University of Southern California (1998 edition) ;

(b) "Manual of Cross-Connection Control" (9th edition) , published by the Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research, University of Southern California (December 1993) .

(2) These publications set forth approved backflow prevention assemblies or devices and standards for cross-connections to public water supply systems.  Copies of the publications listed above are available at the Department of Environmental Quality, 1520 E. 6th Ave., PO Box 200901, Helena, MT 59620-0901.

(3) Backflow prevention assemblies or devices not identified in the publications listed above may be approved by the department if the person demonstrates to the satisfaction of the department that strict adherence to this rule is not necessary to protect public health and the quality of state waters.
