(1) The board shall appoint a medical advisor to provide the board competent medical advice regarding issues of health and safety implicated in the course and conduct of boxing contests. The duties of the medical advisor include:
(a) preparing and submitting appropriate standards for the physical and mental examination of contestants;
(b) advising the board of the physical or mental fitness of a contestant at the board's request.
(2) The medical advisor may participate in board deliberations, but shall not be permitted to vote on the board's adoption or rejection of the recommendation. The medical advisor shall submit recommendations in writing to the board and any recommendations accepted by the board shall be adopted through a formal rulemaking process.
(3) The board may request the medical advisor to attend specific athletic events.
